Particle Detector

The particle detector unit can detect and count the number of particles falling through the detection slit and determine the particle position. The smallest particle that can be measured with this unit is 1mm translucent particles falling through the detection slit. The unit has a detection slit size of 300mm x 150mm.

The unit was developed to count a single stream of particles that falls through the detection slit at a speed of less than 2.5m/s. The position of each particle is determined to within ±5 mm. Accuracy of more than 99%. Count particles with diameters from 1mm to 32mm.

The unit has a RS232 interface for interfacing with a PC. PC control and monitoring software is supplied with the unit. The unit performs a built in test at startup. A number of parameters can be controlled from the PC such as sensitivity and particle size. The internal embedded software of the unit can also be reconfigured via the serial interface.
