Power Line Communication

Periseo’s Prototype Power Line Communication Controlled Irrigation System is a system that efficiently controls irrigation valves using a single power line. The power line supplying the power is also used as a communication medium. A secondary benefit of this system is the fact that missing cables (due to theft, etc.) will immediately be detected, as there will be a break in the circuit.

This system has been designed in such a way that it can replace or run in parallel to an existing irrigation controller. The Main Controller unit can be interfaced directly to an existing irrigation system or it can work independently with a PC (Personal Computer) or a notebook. Software is supplied with the prototype unit. The Main Controller unit can be connected to a standard com-port using the RS232 cable that is supplied with the system. Each Valve Unit contains a modem and thus allows remote management and control of the existing irrigation system via a central computer.

This prototype forms a baseline for future developments. The system can be expanded to include a variety of sensors such as: temperature, humidity and security. This will provide the opportunity to link any element that needs to be controlled with any of the sensors elements.
